Opportunities for Giving

ANNUAL APPEAL - Contributions to the Annual Appeal directly fund our collections and programs, as well as repairs and improvements to the building. Last year your contributions enabled us to purchase over 18,000 new items. You responded by borrowing more than 500,000 books, CDs, DVDs and more! Our fundraising goal for the year ending June 30 is $400,000, our greatest challenge to date. Every gift, regardeless of size, can put a new book, movie or music CD on the shelf.

Please consider these gift categories when making a contribution to the Library's Annual Appeal:

Lifelong Learners: up to $249
Avid Readers: $250 - $499
Book Collectors: $500 - $999
Literature Lovers: $1,000 - $2,499
Writer's Corner: $2,500 - $4,999
Director's Circle: $5,000 - $9,999
President's Circle: $10,000 and above

TRIBUTE GIFTS - You can make your gift in honor of a friend or relative to mark a special occasion. Gifts in memory of a loved one are also a fitting tribute. The gift can be of a general nature, or you can specify an area of interest for making a purchase for the collection. We will acknowledge your gift to the honoree or family.

DESIGNATED OR CAPITAL GIFTS - Please speak with the Library Director if you wish to make a gift for a designated purpose.

PLANNED GIVING - At the present time, the following options are available for making a planned gift to the Library: naming the New Canaan Library as the beneficiary of an IRA; naming the Library as the owner or beneficiary of a life insurance policy; or making a bequest to the Library through your will or living trust. Sample language for making such a gift is as follows: “I give, devise, and bequeath to the New Canaan Library, Incorporated, a nonprofit organization, federal ID #06-0646764, located at 151 Main Street, New Canaan, CT 06840, (insert dollar amount, description of property, or percentage of residuary estate), which shall be used at the discretion of the Board of Trustees for the general purposes of the Library.”
