Spring 2008 - Library Director:

The New Canaan Library Board of Trustees has formed a Search Committee to fill the position of Library Director.  The Committee is co-chaired by Trustees Hazel Hobbs and Tanis Erdmann, and is working in consultation with Alan Burger of Library Development Solutions.

Join us as we create a new future for one of Connecticut’s most highly regarded public libraries.  The New Canaan Library Board of Trustees is seeking an energetic and visionary leader to become the next library director.  You will join our dynamic team of  35 staff, a fully engaged board and a committed corps of community volunteers to build and expand on our tradition of excellence.  Serving a community of nearly 20,000 people, the library has more than 1,000 visitors a day, an annual circulation of more than 450,000 and is supported with a $2 million budget.

 

Experience in fundraising, public relations and community outreach is required as we are entering an exciting stage of expansion and development.  Planning, marketing, programming and budget presentation skills are necessary, as well as excellent interpersonal skills, innovative thinking and knowledge of emerging technologies.

New Canaan is less than one hour from New York City, with an excellent school system and a rich artistic and architectural tradition.  The Library has hosted over 200 authors in the past three years, as well as world renowned speakers from the media and communication industries.  The Library is a vital cultural center in the community and offers concerts, art gallery exhibits, classes, book talks and a wide variety of children’s programming.  Please visit us at www.newcanaanlibrary.org.

Candidates should have an ALA-accredited MLS degree and a minimum of five years experience as a public library administrator.  Starting salary is highly competitive and commensurate with experience, including an excellent benefit package.
