FROM THE DIRECTOR...
Library planning, programming and the enthusiasm for new books by New Canaan readers energized an exciting Library year that just ended. The collection always has our attention, funded by the Annual appeal and other gifts. This year we added 18,110 volumes to our holdings. Gift-in-kind donations accounted for over 7% of new items added. Our patrons responded by borrowing 445,854 items, up 5% over last year. On Monday, June 25th we loaned nearly 2,000 items, our high for the year. Our "readers" who listen to their books on tape or CD found quick access to our nearly 5,000 titles and boosted use by 8% this year. Teen borrowing was at a record level -- teen hardcover fiction was up 44%, teen graphic novels were up 32% and teen loans were up 25% overall, totaling 15,600 items. Read the full article. |
