DESCRIPTION:This is an adaptive art class for teens and young adults with
disabilities. This month we will be exploring mixed media poetry collages.
We’ll use a variety of materials including paper, magazines, and fabric
to create visual representations of poetic works. Participants will choos
e from selected short poems or create their own using word cutouts. We’l
l discuss what their poem means to them, then we’ll add layers of color
and texture to create a unique interpretation of the poem’s imagery. Sk
ills we will practice include reading comprehension and analysis, cutting,
ripping and gluing. \r\nWho should sign up? This class welcomes teens ag
es 14+ and young adults with disabilities. In order to attend alone, parti
cipants need to be independent in a group and able to follow 1-2 step dire
ctions with prompting or volunteer assistance. If they require additional
support, a parent or staff must stay with them.
