Program Type:
Making & CraftingProgram Description
Event Details
This is an adaptive art class for teens and young adults with disabilities. This month we will be exploring mixed media poetry collages. We’ll use a variety of materials including paper, magazines, and fabric to create visual representations of poetic works. Participants will choose from selected short poems or create their own using word cutouts. We’ll discuss what their poem means to them, then we’ll add layers of color and texture to create a unique interpretation of the poem’s imagery. Skills we will practice include reading comprehension and analysis, cutting, ripping and gluing.
Who should sign up? This class welcomes teens ages 14+ and young adults with disabilities. In order to attend alone, participants need to be independent in a group and able to follow 1-2 step directions with prompting or volunteer assistance. If they require additional support, a parent or staff must stay with them.
