Librarian Led Book Groups:
New Canaan Library has several librarian-led book groups that anyone can join! To sign up for one of our book groups, simply visit our events calendar, find the day the group is meeting, click on the name of the book group, then register using the form at the bottom of the page. After you register, you can find copies of the book on the holds shelf under the name of the book group and then bring the book to the Welcome Desk to check them
Next Chapter
The Next Chapter Book Club is a social, community-based book club for older teens and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities who enjoy reading or listening to stories. At every meeting each member is given a turn to read regardless of their reading level. The group reads a page or two and then discusses the book. This club is about supportive friendships and having fun. There is no homework with this book club! We welcome all abilities and new members are always encouraged to join.
Caregivers are also welcome to attend and participate.
This book club meets bi-weekly and is open to individuals ages 16 and up.
BookTok
This group reads and discusses books of all genres that have trended on social media platforms like TikTok and Instagram. Join to find out why these books are so well-loved and determine if they live up to the hype. New members are always welcome!
This book group meets on the last Wednesday of each month.
Women on the Edge
This group reads books of all genres written by women with an emphasis on diverse, edgy, and emerging authors.
This book group meets on the last Monday of each month.
Gothic Circle
This book group reads broadly across the gothic genre and includes literature spanning from the 1700s to the present. Join us on the second Thursday of every month to discuss tales of ill-fated orphans, crumbling castles, and sweltering Southern heat.
Request Books for your Group:
Looking for your next book group selection? New Canaan Library can help! To request a book, simply fill out our provided Form. After we gather your books, we will set them aside for your group members to pick up! See below for specific details on how the process works.
How do I request books for my group?
Requesting a book is simple! Click here and fill out our Google Form at least six weeks before your meeting date. This provides us with enough time to request Interlibrary Loans to assure we can provide you with the number of titles you require.
Can I request a title that is not in your collection?
Yes! If we don’t have the title you are looking for, we will request it through the Interlibrary Loan system. We will always communicate with your group if we are unable to acquire the book you have requested and help you find another title that fits your interests.
Where and how can my group members pick up their books?
Our Book Group Team will collect the exact number of books that you requested in the Google Form. Once ready, we will place them on the hold shelf beside your book group's name. We will send you a notification email that your books are ready to pick up. Please check out your book with a library staff member!
If my group wants to read a book from the Book Group Collection, should I still fill out the form?
Yes! This allows us to make sure we have time to gather copies that may currently be checked out.
I have a question about book groups. Who should I reach out to?
Any questions regarding book groups can be sent to [email protected].
Check out what we reccommend for book groups in our collection.
