  • Anyone who lives, works, or attends school in New Canaan is eligible for a free New Canaan Library card.
     
  • Sign up in-person or online. 
     
  • New members and those renewing must show proof of residency or their work/school affiliation.

Frequently Asked Questions

An extensive print and digital collection; audiobooks; dvds; museum passes; research databases covering academic, medical, genealogical and consumer topics. Your New Canaan Library card is accepted at all Connecticut libraries for borrowing physical items. Digital collections are not reciprocal, but specific to each individual library.

A driver’s license with your current New Canaan address or a piece of mail from a utility company, bank or insurance company.  A lease or mortgage statement is also acceptable.

For those who reside elsewhere but work in New Canaan, please submit a pay stub or letter from your employer on company letterhead. Children attending a New Canaan school but residing in another town may show a school-issued ID to obtain a card.

You may register and use your library card from another Connecticut town to borrow physical items, but only New Canaan residents are eligible for a free New Canaan card with full access to digital material. 

Those who live out of state, or live in another Connecticut town, may purchase a card for $155.

Your New Canaan Library card is valid for three years. To renew the card, simply present your proof of residency in person, or through our online form.
