MultigenerationalProgram Description
Event Details
Experience the revolutionary spirit of American modern dance in a performance that celebrates two historic milestones: the Martha Graham Dance Company’s 100th anniversary and our national America 250 commemoration. There will be two identical performances, this one at 5:30 PM. There is a 7:00 PM performance also listed on our calendar with a separate registration link.
“Mother of Modern Dance” Martha Graham (1894–1991) is a 20th-century icon, revolutionizing dance by creating a new, expressive physical language based on emotional intensity and grounded movement. She is often compared to artistic giants such as Picasso, Stravinsky, and Frank Lloyd Wright for her impact, and the dance company she founded in 1926 continues today. Graham changed how dance was presented, collaborating with artists like sculptor Isamu Noguchi on sets and costumes, and using angular, intense choreography that brought emotional truth to the stage. By highlighting the Graham tradition as a touchstone of our shared history, this event honors the American spirit and the powerful role of art in shaping our national identity.
About Graham 2
