Program Description

Event Details

Take a dive into the diverse world of peonies! From their origins as medicinal plants in China and Europe, to symbols of wealth and prestige in Imperial China, and finally to a perennial suitable for almost any landscape today, Daniel Furman of Cricket Hill Garden in Thomaston, CT, will weave together the rich history of this storied plant with practical advice on growing great peonies in New England.

David Furman founded Cricket Hill Garden in 1989, focusing on Chinese tree peonies. It was one of the first nurseries in the United States to sell true-to-name varieties of these rare plants. Over the last 25 years, he and his wife, Kasha, transformed a rocky, wooded hillside into a six-acre peony display garden and have trialed more than 500 cultivars of tree, herbaceous, and intersectional (Itoh) hybrid peonies.

This program is sponsored by the New Canaan Beautification League.
