Program Description

Event Details

Rita Daniels, great-great-great grandniece of Harriet Tubman, joins S.T.A.R. and the Library to mark Juneteenth 2025 and share a fuller picture of this inspiring and illuminating key figure in our history.

For all of Harriet Tubman’s accomplishments and the myriad books written about her, gaps, errors, and misconceptions of her legendary life persist. We might know the outlines of her story, but Jean Marie Wiesen’s deep research and Rita Daniels’s rich family memory combine to form a nuanced and vibrant portrait in Harriet Tubman: Military Scout and Tenacious Visionary. Wiesen and Daniels uncover Harriet's ancestral roots in Ghana and explore her time on the underground railroad, as a military scout, suffragette, and more. Daniels will be in conversation with Mendi Blue Paca, President and CEO of Fairfield County's Community Foundation.
