Event Details

In the STEAM Catapult Challenge, students use design and engineering thinking to construct catapults that can project pom poms as far as possible. Through hands-on exploration led by instructors from Ponus Ridge STEAM Academy, students learn about the functions and purpose of catapults, potential energy, levers, and measurement of distance. Working collaboratively in teams, students will design, test, and refine their catapults to see who can build the most effective launcher. Creativity, problem-solving, teamwork and competition are key as students turn ideas into action and aim for maximum distance! Get ready to design, build, and compete!

For students in grades 5-8 in Fall 2026.  Registration opens August 1 at 8am.

Ponus Ridge STEAM Academy is a middle school for grades 6–8 where students learn by doing. Our STEAM-focused magnet program integrates Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics through hands-on PBL and experiential learning with a strong emphasis on technology and workforce development.
