Event Details

A decades-long war and the Taliban takeover of Afghanistan create a uniquely challenging landscape for women and girls living in Afghanistan. Presented by three women with extensive knowledge of the situation, this program will give attendees an opportunity to learn first-hand account of the reality of life in Afghanistan, and how we can support initiatives that are designed to uplift the women in the center of the conflict.

About the Presenters:

Nadia Hashimi, Doctor, an international best selling author and co- founder of the Afghan-American Foundation

Alexis Brooks is Counsel in Murtha Cullina LLP’s Business and Finance Department, providing corporate legal services to Connecticut businesses. Alexis provided pro bono legal services through Pangea Legal Services and Project Anar to submit 14 applications for humanitarian parole to the USCIS on behalf of a family trying to escape Afghanistan in the Fall of 2021.

Shekaiba Bennett, Educator, Co- chair of the UN Committee of New Canaan and a New Canaan Police Commissioner

Sodaba Wakili, Executive Director of Social Change for Afghan Women Organization based in Afghanistan.
