Event Details
Homer's The Odyssey, recorded over 2,000 years ago, remains one of the most beloved stories in human history. The epic follows Odysseus's journey home after 10 long years of fighting in The Trojan War. While the jealous gods and fearsome monsters Odysseus encounters provide an exciting story, the poem also serves as a window into the values, fears, and lived experiences of the Ancient Greeks. Join reference librarian Flannery for this 4-session close reading series where we will explore the history, plot, and craftsmanship of one of the world's most beloved poems.
This group will meet every other Thursday from April 23rd - June 4th. We will be reading Emily Wilson's 2017 translation of The Odyssey. Copies of this edition will be available for registrants on the holds shelf.
This week we will be discussing books 7-12 of The Odyssey.
